Top 10 Good Carbs

All carbs are not created equal! Can you spot the good ones? Sometimes it can be hard to remember which carbs are good and which are bad, especially with so much contradicting information out there.

We believe in keeping things simple and flavorful. That’s why we’ve collected the top 10 list of good carbs that you can easily incorporate into your favorite meals and snacks.

1. Quinoa

Ever heard of a “complete protein”? Quinoa is one of the few foods that can claim this title. Replace pasta, rice or couscous with this delicious good carb for the ultimate healthy meal.

2. Hummus

Hummus is packed with protein and fiber, making it an ideal snack. Pair it with veggies to add even more nutritional value.

3. Popcorn

Air popped with no toppings, it’s one of the best snacking carbs as long as you don’t overdo it! 1-2 cups.

4. Wild Rice

Is there a better side than wild rice? It goes with almost everything. It has more flavor and protein than its white and brown counterparts, and has less sodium too. It’s a win-win!

5. Dark Chocolate

Yes, chocolate makes the list! Instead of milk chocolate, go for dark chocolate (70% or more) when you’re craving something sweet. It has tons of antioxidants, and can even benefit heart health in moderation. Always check the label for sugar content, less than 4 gms of sugar per serving is what you want to look for.

6. ALL Vegetables

This might seem like a given, but there’s a reason your mom kept making you eat your vegetables. No matter the kind, no matter the preparation, vegetables are always a good idea. When in doubt, put a veggie on the side.

7. Red Beans

They’re fiber-filled, protein-packed and good for your heart. You can’t go wrong with red beans. Try using them like you would a crouton in soup or a salad, cook them just right “al dente”, when you overcook them the good carbs degrade.

8. Almonds

Sorry, we’re not talking about the sugar coated or salted kind. Plain or raw almonds are just as delicious, however, not due to high natural sugars.  This is a sweet snack without the late-afternoon sugar crash.

9. Pumpkin & Sunflower seeds

Like carbs, all fats are not created equal either! Pumpkin and sunflower seeds contain the good kind of fats you need to maintain a well-rounded healthy diet.
